Malaak unveils latest abaya collection

Dubai, November 24, 2010

UAE fashion designer Malaak has unveiled its latest A/W 2010-2011 collection which is inspired by the glamour and elegance of the 1920s.

Malaak is a creative, retro inspired abaya label that mixes the traditional with the cosmopolitan, to produce unique designs for the modern woman.

Malaak’s latest collection, launching this month after previewing at the 3abaya.com fashion show recently, combines the sophistication and style of the 1920s era, with an emphasis on the dropped waist and bold asymmetrical cuts across the body and sleeves, a statement said.

The collection is characterized by the crushing and draping of material, which makes for a striking new silhouette, while the neutral colour palette alludes to the fashion and glamour of the 1920s, it added.

The 14-piece collection offers a range of fashion options with both more conservative closed necklines and contemporary open necklines, which are accentuated in line with the era of inspiration. Higher sleeves allow versatility and the opportunity to accessorise the piece.

The 1920s influence is mixed with 21st Century touches to keep the finishing of the garments modern, fresh, and cutting edge. Each garment is made using the highest quality, craftsmanship, and the best materials, while ensuring each design is light and comfortable in weight, a spokesperson said.

“The aim was to create a collection of pieces that refresh the silhouette of the abaya, and create something modern, and bold, while still respecting the traditional values of the abaya,” said Huda Nuaimi, owner and designer of Malaak.

“The new collection can be worn with a short or long sleeve, and offers a mixture of closed and open pieces, in order to provide something for every taste.”

The collection is the second from designer Huda Nuaimi under the Malaak label and will be complemented by the addition of a cruise collection that will be launched early next year.

Malaak is stocked locally in USH Boutique in Dubai and Grafika in Abu Dhabi, as well as available worldwide on 3Abaya.com.-TradeArabia News Service
