Emirates Coop cuts food prices

Dubai-based supermarket chain Emirates Cooperative Society, will cut the prices of key food items by five to 30 per cent from September 4 at all its branches, a report said.

'This is to help our local and expatriate customers against the increasing food price, to keep the spirit of giving this Ramadan and as per the instructions of the board of directors and also in line with the country-wide campaign launched by UAE government to prevent any possible manipulation of prices by some traders during the holy month,' Farid Al Shamandy, acting general manager of Emirates Cooperative Society, was quoted as saying in the Gulf News report.

The items which come under the special discount include rice, oil, frozen chicken, fresh meat, fruit and vegetables, sugar, vimto, flour, powder milk, canned foods as well as non food items like aluminium foil, plastic plates, electronic items and household items, he added.

The store is also offering the option of a wholesale Ramadan basket for Dh300 which consists of Pakistani rice 20kg, flour 10kg, sugar 10kg, oil 1.8ltr, powder milk 2.5kg and tomato paste 100 pcs.
