MECSC elects new president

Dubai, May 17, 2008

The Middle East Council of Shopping Centres (MECSC) Annual General Meeting has elected a new president.

President of the Burjuman Centre Majid Saif Al Ghurair was re-elected chairman of MECSC while Maher Al Shaer was elected president.

Al Shaer is managing director of Al Retaj Holding Company in Bahrain and brings with him a wealth of experience from a career in the retail sector.

MECSC has also announced a possible merger with the International Council of Shopping Centres (ICSC).

Based in Dubai, the MECSC is a voluntary, non-profit association.  Established in 1994, the council has more than 750 active members. 

Covering a territory of 18 countries in the region, the MECSC represents the interests of shopping mall owners, developers, marketing managers, leasing managers and specialists, retailers, consultants, property managers, financiers, accountants, government officials and industry suppliers.  

Al Shaer replaces Saudi Arabia country general manager, MAF Shopping Malls Co, Saudi Arabia, Mohammed Alawi.

Also appointed at the Annual General Meeting as an executive committee member was senior vice-president Shopping Malls, MAF Shopping Malls, UAE, Shahram Shamsaee.

“We are very excited about the prospect of merging with the International Council of Shopping Centres.  This topic was high on the agenda at the annual general meeting and we expect to make a formal announcement in the coming months,” said Al Shaer. – TradeArabia News Service
