UAE ban on China-made kitchenware

Abu Dhabi, September 11, 2007

The UAE authorities have ordered the withdrawal of some Chinese-made kitchenware after finding traces of carcinogen in them, a report said.

The UAE Ministry of Economy (MoE) has written to the General Secretariat of Municipalities to withdraw the products called 'skimmers' from the market, said the Gulf News report.

Dr Hashim Al Nuaimi, director of the consumer protection unit at the ministry, has summoned the manager of the supplier, Elements Middle East, and will ask him to stop importing and supplying the products, the report said.

The ministry requested consumers to avoid purchasing such products and report to the ministry if such products are found in the market.

Dr Al Nuaimi said the ministry has got enough evidence that the skimmers contain carcinogen, the report said.

The ministry said it will announce more details about the products today.
