Samsung to showcase PDP line-up

Dubai, August 27, 2007

Samsung Electronics will showcase its latest innovations - full HD PDP TV line-up, the P9 and P71 – during Gitex 2007.

“The company’s new range merges cutting-edge technology with classic designs to produce the most rewarding high definition viewing experience for customers seeking the ultimate in detailed and natural picture quality on a big screen TV,” the company said in a statement.

The full HDTV P71 and P9 line-up combine 1080p technology to produce ultra fine resolution, providing better detail and more natural colours. 1080p enables the user to connect and take advantage of the full capabilities of advanced home theatre components, such as Blu-ray player or gaming systems. The P71 comes in 63’’ and the P9 comes in 50’’.

The line-up further incorporates smart new features and patented technologies promising to take home cinema to another dimension, such as Samsung Natural True Color technology, which processes color elements in 18 bits to render vibrant and natural images and feature an unprecedented contrast ratio of 15000:1.

The Samsung patented technologies also include Real Motion Studio, a suite of three advanced features including Smart Frame Plus, Silhouette Editor and Movie Plus. Smart Frame eliminates motion blur on TV signals, while Silhouette Editor evens out face tones and eliminates ugly contour lines, and Movie Plus eliminates the jagged images often seen in movies played on TV.

“And for movie connoisseurs, Samsung goes an extra step with the introduction of its Movie Mode feature. This unique feature creates the art of cinema in your living room by adjusting the colour temperature to match the settings used in shooting and editing a film, recreating the emotion-rich scenes, the statement said.

Samsung meets the expectations of customers looking for a plasma TV with superior picture quality, with the introduction of its Ultra FilterBright technology. Ultra FilterBright uses Samsung’s Super Black Panel which absorbs light to create deeper blacks and clearer details even in a bright room. It also features a specially designed Optimal Light Filter that blocks unnecessary external light and eposes the maximum internal light to further enhance the bright-room contrast ration to six times that of normal PDP TVs, it added.

The P71 and P9 also employ three high definition multimedia interface (HDMI) connections further positioning the TVs as a multi-media centerpiece. The HDMIs allow users to connect HD digital devices like disc players, game consoles and satellite dish components into the two rear connections and use the side-mounted input for cameras, camcorders and laptops.

The TVs are further Anynet+ ready allowing users the convenience of a one-controller operation for all HDMIed A/V boxes.

“This new line-up perfectly illustrates the evolving industry of streamlining digital technology. The high performance multimedia device makes the LCD TVs the ultimate interface for viewing motion pictures, connecting to the laptop or the camcorder while maintaining a premium high definition viewing experience,”. Said Samsung Gulf Electronics visual display division general manager Kwang Hyun Lee.

The Samsung P9 also boasts the auto wall-mount feature, which enables viewers to adjust the angle of the TV using the remote control, allowing the screen to be swiveled up to 20 degrees horizontally in both directions and tilted 15 degrees down.

For all its PDP models, Samsung has installed power saving technology to reduce energy consumption as well as special anti-burn technology that extends the panel life to a full 60,000 hours, ensuring years of employment without having to replace the panel.

The P9 retails at Dh11,999 ($3,267) and the P71 at Dh33,999 and are available in all major electronics stores across the region. – TradeArabia News Service
