Lexmark launches wi-fi printers

Dubai, July 16, 2007

Lexmark has launched a new range of wi-fi colour laser printers which will soon be available throughout the Middle East.

François Feuillet, general manager for Lexmark Middle East, believes that wireless printing is a natural development for homes and offices that are already embracing wi-fi technology in other applications.

“Lexmark’s major core of business is the home office and small business community,” he says. “When we see the trends in the wireless space, the one missing ingredient from the mix is wireless printing. 21st century work patterns show that customers - whether based in homes or offices - are becoming increasingly mobile and are now demanding more flexible printing options. With our new range of colour laser printers, we can now offer users the ease of portability, combined with high quality print performance,” he continues.

The company’s recent IT conference; titled ‘Get More Done With Wireless & Colour’, took place at its Lexington headquarters in the US and was buoyed by the results of a commissioned survey that showed that wireless printing was expected to be one of the main drivers of productivity over the next five years. “All our research has pointed to wi-fi enabled printing solutions as being precisely what customers desire and what they consider to be a logical progression,” says Feullet.

The technology to achieve wireless printing has been around for some time and Feuillet reports that that the launch of the new generation of Lexmark printers has been timed to maintain competitive pricing.

“We could have installed wireless cards into our printers last year, but the cost would have been quite high and this would have necessarily been passed onto the customer,” he says. “However, over the past twelve months, we’ve seen an incredible flattening out of the cost curve. For Lexmark, the main goal is to keep printing economical, so now is the right time to launch this new range, when we can ensure affordability,” he adds. –TradeArabia News Service
