Work on $621m Salalah power plant begins

The foundation stone for the RO240 million ($621.2 million) Salalah II Independent Power Plant, the second stage for power generation in Raysut area, Salalah, was laid recently, according to a report.
 
The new plant, which will be connected to the power network in Dhofar Governorate, will have a product capacity of 445ME by using high efficient turbine gases, said the Oman Daily Observer report.
 
Oman Power Water Purchase Company (PWPC) signed the agreement to set up the plant, last May. PWPC will purchase the power generated from the plant for 15 years, it said.
 
As per the plan, the commercial operation of the plant will start during the first quarter of 2018.
 
The plant will help in meeting the growing demand for electricity due to industrial, construction and tourism growth witnessed by the governorate, it added.
