The foundation stone for a multi-fuel run electricity generation mega-project has been laid in Jordan, according to a report.

The plant, which will be implemented by the Amman-Asia Electric Power Company, coded IPP3, will have the production capacity of 573MW, said the Jordan Times report.

It will be largest internal combustion power plant in the world and will be located in the Manakher area in east Amman, it said.

It will provide around 15 per cent of additional electric power to the kingdom’s electricity grid, said the report.

The station is being implemented as a joint venture between a consortium of the Korea Electric Power Corp. Mitsui and Co. and the Finnish power company, Wärtsilä, in co-operation with local task groups from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, the National Electric Power Company and the Jordan Water Authority, it said.

Meanwhile, the report added that in addition to operational flexibility, IPP3 will provide fuel flexibility, with the tri-fuel plant with the ability to run on heavy fuel oil (HFO), light fuel oil and natural gas.
