EMC 'Data Domain' systems...to create backup, archive and recovery capabilities

Bapco, EMC sign deal for centralised backup environment

MANAMA, March 5, 2015

Bahrain Petroleum Company (Bapco) and EMC have signed an agreement under which the refining major gets a centralised, tapeless backup environment using EMC's 'next generation data protection solutions.’

EMC 'Data Domain' systems have been deployed by Bapco to create the backup, archiving and recovery capabilities which it said would help 'to effectively manage future growth and to create enterprise-ready, agile and highly scalable data protection architecture,’ said a report in the Gulf Daily News (GDN), our sister publication.

The tapeless infrastructure allows improved backup storage utilisation, drive backup and recovery performance while delivering significant cost savings and simplifying administration.

It also helps in avoiding managerial and cost complexities associated with tape-based architecture.

The technology overhaul also cuts back on resources needed for time-consuming service and maintenance tasks as well as manual restore operations associated with verifying tape-based data backups.

“As a result of this deployment, Bapco has been able to simplify day-to-day backup operations and renew its confidence in recoverability of critical data and applications when needed to allow us to focus on industry innovation,” Bapco general manager for finance and IT Mohammed Jawad Sitrawi said.

EMC Corporation Gulf and Pakistan Regional general manager Habib Mahakian said by using the new deduplication capabilities, Bapco has been able to reduce the overall cost of data protection services.

“The new system enables a single-console reporting and monitoring system to resolve issues in a timely manner to meet critical service level agreements and compliance regulations,” he said. - TradeArabia News Service
