Takreer denies fire at refinery Sunday

Abu Dhabi, June 28, 2011

There was no fire at Abu Dhabi's Umm al Nar oil refinery on Sunday, the Abu Dhabi Oil Refining Company (Takreer) said on Tuesday, denying local media reports.

Quoting emergency services, official Emirates news agency WAM said a fire broke out at the Umm al Nar refinery in Abu Dhabi on Sunday. But the fire did not affect the refinery, Takreer says.

"The media report about breaking out of fire in Abu Dhabi refinery is not correct," a senior Takreer official told Reuters, adding that the fire on the Umm al Nar island was not on the refinery grounds.

"All the refinery units are fully operational," he said.

The island is also home to a power and water desalination plant, which is majority owned by Abu Dhabi National Energy Company. – Reuters
