Seoul, May 12, 2008

State refiner Kuwait National Petroleum Co (KNPC) has awarded a $2.06 billion refinery plant order to South Korea's SK Engineering and Construction Co Ltd, the South Korean company said on Monday.

The construction is part of an $8.3 billion project to build a large refinery with daily production of 615,000 barrels in Al-Zour on the Persian Gulf, unlisted SK Engineering said in a statement.

Other South Korean companies also won contracts for parts of the project, it added, without identifying them.

Including the order that will last up to 45 months, SK Engineering is involved in about $5.8 billion worth of projects in Kuwait. - Reuters
