Qatargas has achieved a new project milestone with the installation of the first of its new offshore wellhead platforms in the North Field.

“The platform was installed safely following hours of work which involved the use of a special heavy lift crane which is capable of lifting up to 2,500 tonnes,” Qatargas said.
 
The topsides which weigh approximately 2,000 tonnes were carefully positioned above the jacket structure that sit on the seabed floor and support the platform. The jackets were installed in 2004 and 2005.

The platforms will be used to supply the two 7.8 million tonnes per annum liquefied natural gas processing trains currently under construction.

The next two platforms are expected to be installed in January 2008 and late spring 2008. The processing trains are expected to be completed in 2008 and 2009.
