SAIC Motor to make Mideast debut at Dubai show

DUBAI, October 5, 2015

SAIC Motor Corporation, a leading automotive manufacturer in China, is set to make its Middle East debut at an upcoming Dubai show, with the showcase of its latest products and technology to the region courtesy of its MG and Maxus brands.

With its Middle East launch, SAIC is looking to provide local customers with more diversified and reliable products and inject new energy into the region’s automotive industry, said a statement.

At the upcoming Dubai International Motor Show, which will run from November 10 to 14 at the Dubai World Trade Centre, SAIC will introduce its MG passenger car and MAXUS commercial vehicle line-ups to the Middle East.

Now owned by SAIC Motor, both brands are from Europe and have a long history, it said.

Founded in the UK in 1924, MG (Morris Garages) was famous for its cabriolet series, sought after by many celebrities including British Prime Ministers and even the British royal family.

Set up in 1930 in Abingdon, UK, the MG Car Club has more than a million loyal fans, making it by far one of the world's largest clubs for a single brand.

Maxus is an international commercial vehicle brand, with roots stretching back as far as 1896 when it was founded in Birmingham, UK. Previously known as LDV, the brand has long been known for leading technology and stability, leading to its providing vehicles to the British Royal family and political figures.

In 2009, SAIC Motor completed a full acquisition of LDV’s intellectual property and technology platform.

Currently, Maxus vehicles are sold in more than 30 countries and regions, including Australia, Ireland and New Zealand, while assembly plants and sales joint ventures have been established in Malaysia and Thailand.

SAIC's business covers research, production, and sales of vehicles and components. It also covers logistics, vehicle telematics, second-hand vehicle sales and auto finance services, said the statement.

Its car sales have hit 2.86 million units in the first half of this year, it added. - TradeArabia News Service
