Doha readies for first event security conference

Qatar’s Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy is organising the First Major Event Safety and Security Conference, in collaboration with Interpol, which will be hosted by Doha on November 7 and 8 at the St Regis Doha Hotel.
It aims to develop security measures and precautions for international sporting events and implement them in preparation for those events. The conference will also contribute to determining the security arrangements to be made during the World cup to be held in Qatar in 2022.
The conference will discuss key topics such as legislation, physical security and cyber security by international law enforcement experts from event organizing committees, governments, the private sector, the academic community and civil society. The participating bodies will present papers, studies and research on the conference to support planning and implementing security arrangements in the field of major sporting events at the international level.
Colonel Mohammed Majid Al-Sulaiti, director of the Security Department of SC pointed out that this conference would strengthen the international partnership in the field of maintaining security and providing safety for major sports events in light of the increasing transnational and transcontinental security risks.
He added that the conference would help to learn experiences from all countries of the world and establish an entity that includes all previous experiences of countries in organizing major sporting events. In addition, it can create a fertile environment for exchanging experiences among all law enforcement agencies and identifying the best practices of technology and the human skill development and interaction in this field.
The conference will also discuss the threats facing the organization of major events against terrorism acts and riots in the stadiums. He pointed out that the State of Qatar would organize this great event with support of Qatari human cadre who have been well trained and well prepared to contribute in securing many major tournaments at local, regional and international levels.
On the sidelines of the conference, an exhibition will be organized with participation of sponsors, security companies and other official authorities in the country to highlight the latest developments in Qatar and the latest global security technologies as well as to present all preparations for the World Cup 2022.
The conference will also witness the launch of a project under the umbrella of Interpol that will be a big move in the mechanism and work of the law enforcement agencies locally and internationally.
Major Ali Muhammad Al Ali, executive director of Security Affairs at SC said that the conference is held in partnership between the Security Committee of SCDL, the (Interpol) and the Project Stadia funded by Qatar. The Inerpol’s Project Stadia works with the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy to create best practices and security arrangements for the Fifa World Cup 2022 in Qatar, leaving a lasting legacy for law enforcement agencies worldwide.
He explained that the conference would present the efforts of the security committee of the Supreme Committee to obtain membership as an observer in the Standing Committee of the European Convention on Spectator Violence in addition to partnership with the International Center for Sports Security. – TradeArabia News Service
