New parking system to be launched in Al Ain next month
ABU DHABI, July 30, 2017
Abu Dhabi’s Integrated Transport Centre has announced that it will implement Mawaqif paid parking services in Al Ain starting from August.
The move is part of the centre’s commitment to provide world-class solutions to effectively manage parking requirements in the emirate of Abu Dhabi, and to resolve the parking problem in Al Ain due to the growing population and significant increase in the number of registered vehicles, the centre said.
Mohammed Hamad Al Muhairi, deputy general manager of the centre and head of Traffic and Parking Team, said the Mawaqif paid parking scheme will help ease the shortage of parking spaces in some of Al Ain’s congested areas. It will also help stop the misuse of limited parking spots and improve the overall aesthetic appearance of Al Ain city, he said.
Work on painting of Mawaqif spaces and installation of machines has already begun in preparation for the implementation of the paid parking system next month. At present 121 parking machines have been installed at certain Al Ain districts for the first phase of the implementation.
To apply for a resident parking permit, residents must submit a passport copy with a valid residency visa, tenancy contract, last utility bill and proof of vehicle ownership. The permits, which are virtual, are available to owners, tenants and their families. Each non-local household is limited to two parking permits. The annual permits will cost Dh800 for the first car and Dh1,200 for a second one. Each permit is specific to the vehicle and the sector. - TradeArabia News Service
