GCC building code .... in its final stages.

GCC to launch unified building code next year

DOHA, October 23, 2015

The GCC countries are working on an unified building code which will be launched in the second quarter of 2016, said a report.
 
Based on international best practices, it is a standard unified regional code that will be applied to building and construction projects throughout GCC states.
 
The region's municipal ministers discussed the issues and agreed on recommendations at a key meeting held in Doha, reported The Peninsula citing a senior minister.
 
The ministers approved the municipal work award, a decision to document municipal workshops and training programme held at GCC level, and the agenda of the forthcoming ninth municipal work conference, Qatar's Minister of Municipality and Urban Planning Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al Thani was quoted as saying.
 
A municipal work prize will be awarded at the GCC level for the first time during the conference to be held in Doha in April next year.
 
Meanwhile, a senior official said the code is in the final stage and will be launched by the second quarter of next year.
