Emirates ID wins UN Public Service Award

ABU DHABI, July 8, 2015

The Emirates Identity Authority has won the United Nations Public Service Award in the category of ‘Promoting Whole-of-Government Approaches in the Information Age.’

This was in recognition of its accomplishments in the development of infrastructure conducive to transforming services rendered by public and private sectors into electronic services, particularly the setting up of the National Validation Gateway, said a statement.

The award was conferred at the UN Public Service Forum which was held in Medellin, Columbia recently, under the theme ‘Innovating serving delivery to implement the post-2015 development agenda.’

The award highlights innovations that help to provide better services to citizens everywhere in the world and improve people’s lives, according to a statement issued by the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (Undesa) on the occasion.

The Emirates ID also took part in the exhibition held on the side-lines of the forum, showcasing the authority’s many services and accomplishments, such as the Validation Gateway.

The Validation Gateway enabled governments, banks, organisations as well as individuals to make use of the EmiratesID card in an online scenario.

VG offers many fool-proof methods of identity authentication in online services when the smart identity cards issued by Emirates ID are used as the means of ID verification, both physically and digitally.

All government bodies in the UAE are now in a position to improve and increase their service offerings to the people with the use of the validation gateway. All they want to know about the customer is just a click away at no extra-cost and effort.

The three-day forum aimed at promoting international and regional cooperation by providing government officials and other stake holders an opportunity to exchange good practices, experiences and lessons learned through networking.

It also was aimed at helping to build the capacity of governments, particularly in developing and least developed countries, to anticipate and respond in innovative ways to the challenges posed by the implementation of the new development agenda, according to the Undesa. - TradeArabia News Service
