Bahrain-Russia to step up military co-operation

Bahrain and Russia have agreed to step up military co-operation to promote stability in the region.
The move was backed by His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa who said that there are even wider horizons for increasing Bahraini-Russian co-operation, to consolidate areas of joint collaboration, especially in military, technical and other fields, reported the Gulf Daily News (GDN), our sister publication.
He made his remarks as he received Russian President's Envoy and Director of the Federal Service for Military-Technical Co-operation Alexander Fomin.
Praising Russia's international political and economic weight apart from its military and technical capabilities, the Premier affirmed that the two countries have enough means and potential that enable them to strengthen their solid partnership.
He welcomed the visit of the Russian delegation to Bahrain, stressing its importance in enhancing the existing co-operation in commerce and defence.
"The steady progress in Bahraini-Russian relations reflects the two countries' desire to widen areas of co-operation in order to achieve their common interests," the Premier pointed out.
"In this region, our prominent concern is security and stability, and Russia, a super power exercising great influence in international politics, plays a key role in their promotion."
Fomin hailed Bahrain's progress and advanced infrastructure, expressing his country's desire to enhance co-operation in all fields.
The meeting also saw the Premier asking the envoy to convey his greetings to President Vladimir Putin, and other Russian leaders, wishing friendly Russia further progress and prosperity. - TradeArabia News Service
