Tough penalty for insulting Bahrain shura council

MANAMA, May 16, 2015

A draft law toughening penalties for defaming statutory bodies will be on parliament’s agenda when it meets on Tuesday.

“Those convicted of defaming the Shura Council, parliament or the National Assembly will be jailed or fined,” said a report in our sister paper Akhbar Al Khaleej.

Similar tougher penalties will also be applicable to those who discredit the BDF, the Public Security, the National Guard, the National Security, the courts and other statutory bodies.

The Shura Council foreign policy, defence and national security committee has already endorsed the amendments.-TradeArabia News Service
