Abu Dhabi police arrest man with 24kg of drugs
ABU DHABI, April 22, 2015
Abu Dhabi Police have arrested a Pakistani man on suspicion of possessing and intending to sell 24 kilograms of hashish and heroin in the Mussafah industrial area of the UAE capital.
Brigadier Omair Al Muhairi, director of Police Operations at Abu Dhabi Police, said: “The skilled and experienced anti-narcotic officers of the Abu Dhabi Police have been vigilant in uncovering and thwarting any attempt to smuggle drugs – regardless of the various concealment methods that have been attempted.”
He continued by pointing out that the officers and police members have intensified their investigation, surveillance, and training procedures in order to gain valuable experience in detecting those who abuse or traffic drugs.
“The arrest was highly significant, as it required a great amount of coordination between the officers and the personnel in order to be carried out according to the well-devised plan. The coordinated plan was conducted with high efficiency and professionalism, which contributed to the success of this arrest – and will contribute to the success of arresting any other criminal who intends to implement a similar operation,” Brigadier Al Muhairi added.
Colonel Dr Rashid Mohammad Borshid, head of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), said: “Following a tipoff regarding an individual who was suspected of possessing and intending to sell drugs, of whom we have identified as “R.A.K”, personnel investigated into the case and validated the information. A security team of officers from the Anti-Drug Section in the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) was formed, and following a concise legal procedure, our team was able to track the drugs and arrest the suspect.”
The Head of the CID continued by describing how the security team located the suspect and placed him under surveillance until the moment of his arrest. Upon questioning, the suspect confessed to trafficking drugs. Following a search of his residence, he was found to be in possession of 20.35 kilograms of hashish in bags; and 3.68 kilograms of heroin in capsules.
The drugs were confiscated and the suspect, along with the seized drugs, was referred to the competent authorities for further investigation into the circumstances of the case and for the appropriate legal actions. – TradeArabia News Service
