Abu Dhabi Police foil bid to sell 15kg Hashish in Al Ain

ABU DHABI, March 12, 2015

Abu Dhabi Police recently arrested a Gulf national in violation of the Residency Law for possession with intent to sell 15 kg of marijuana (hashish) in Al Ain.

The arrest was carried out as the sun set - hence the operation has been deemed the ‘Operation Sunset,’ said a statement.

Colonel Dr Rashid Mohammad Borshid, head of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), indicated that the Anti-Drug Section in Al Ain had received confidential information regarding the suspect`s possession of a large amount of drugs that he was planning to sell.

After reviewing, analysing and validating the received information, a security plan was established and a search and investigations team was formed.

The team was equipped with the modern tools necessary to thwart the suspect’s intended operation.

“Following preliminary investigations, we were able to uncover the intended plan to traffic drugs and to reach the suspect involved in the criminal activity.  The team devised a plan and contacted the suspect to buy the entire quantity in the suspect’s possession, valuing Dh70,000  ($19,054) as numbered by law,” said Dr Borshid.

“Without arousing the suspicions of the suspect, an officer from the Anti-Narcotics Federal Directorate General was able to act inconspicuously and utilise his extensive skills and experience to set up an opportunity for the Anti-Drug Section team to foil the suspect’s attempt to sell the drugs,” he said.

Colonel Sultan Suwayeh Al Darmaki, chief of the Anti-Drug Section at the CID, stressed the importance of the operation and of its swift success in controlling the attempt to traffic drugs and in stopping the criminal activity of the suspect.

The team of the Anti-Drug Section managed to conduct surveillance and arrest the suspect at the same location where the transaction of buying and selling took place in Al Ain, said Dr Borshid.

“We confiscated the drugs the suspect had in his possession, which included 15 rectangular pieces of hashish wrapped in plastic bags, weighing 15 kg,” he added. - TradeArabia News Service
