MANAMA, January 5, 2015

Mawane, an independent non-profit art initiative, will launch its first exhibition titled "The Spectacle: Inter[pretation]" on January 8 at Damistan village, Bahrain.

The exhibition will be part of Mawane's first cultural season titled "[In]Accessible".

Artist Mariam Al Noaimi, an interior designer who previously participated in the 40th Bahrain Annual Fine Art Exhibition, will display her art works in the solo exhibition, where she expresses the idea of how social changes in society are led by modern city developments.

The exhibition will be open from January 8 to 10 from 9 am to 5 pm.

Additionally, American film makers Chad and Jaime Freidrichs will host a one-time screening of the documentary “Pruitt-Igoe Myth – an Urban History” under the patronage of the US Embassy, at Damistan beach on Januray 9 at 5 pm. The movie tells the story of the transformation of the American city in the decades after World War II, through the lens of the infamous Pruitt-Igoe housing development and the St. Louis residents who called it home.

A discussion will follow the movie to discuss the history of public housing and the keys of accessibility in similar scenarios, aligning with the main theme of the event “access”.

Mawane’s first cultural season, [In]Accessible, will continue till January 31 with four more exhibitions that will be open each Thursday to Saturday from 9 am to 5 pm on Damistan beach, in addition to talks and workshops held by guests from Bahrain and aboard on the subject of inaccessibility in architecture and urban planning.
