US woman killed in toilet fight in Abu Dhabi
ABU DHABI, December 3, 2014
An American woman died after suffering fatal injuries in a fight inside the ladies public toilet of a shopping mall on Reem Island in Abu Dhabi, UAE, this week.
The woman, who was rushed to Sheikh Khalifa Medical City, succumbed to the wounds she sustained in the attack at the hospital, Abu Dhabi police said.
Investigations are still under way to identify the suspect’s identity and gender. Witnesses reported that the culprit was fully covered wearing an abaya, black gloves and face cover (Niqab).
According to Colonel Dr Rashid Mohammad Borshid, head of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) at Abu Dhabi Police, the victim, identified as A B R, 37, worked as a school teacher.
She was stabbed with a sharp tool, which was later confiscated by the police.
The cause of the fight that broke out in the women’s restroom remains unknown and the suspect fled the scene immediately after committing the crime.
He added: “The police are investigating to uncover the crime’s causes and motives and to arrest the culprit.”
Colonel Dr Borshid also revealed that the Community Police are taking care of the victim’s 11-year-old twins. “The Community Police will be providing the children with shelter and other needs pending the arrival of their father (the victim’s ex-husband) from abroad. The father will be received by the Community Police, who will also cater to the needs of the victim’s family,” he said.
