Motorists face fine for blocking road after accidents

ABU DHABI, September 4, 2014

Abu Dhabi motorists involved in minor accidents will be fined if they fail to remove their vehicles from the road in a new move aimed at avoiding traffic obstruction and reducing traffic congestion.

Brigadier Ghaith Hassan Al Zaabi, director general, Traffic Coordination Department, Ministry of Interior, said: “This procedure embodies the MoI strategy aimed to adjust the security of the roads and implements the recommendations of the Federal Traffic Council. As of 15 September, drivers who fail to remove their vehicles from the roads after a minor accident will be fined.”

“Article (12) of the Regulations for Federal Traffic Law, states that in the event of a traffic accident that does not result in a physical injury, parties involved shall park their vehicles in the nearest location that does not obstruct traffic. This should be done in order to avoid traffic fines under the heading of ‘Traffic Obstruction’, and all parties involved in the accident shall submit their personal and vehicle information.

“We have noticed that some motorists will keep their vehicles in the middle of the road, which leads to additional traffic obstruction and more accidents. Even in minor accidents, curious drivers will park their vehicles in obstructive places in order to see or film what is happening – which leads to traffic jams,” he added.

Brigadier Al Zaabi urged motorists to abide by the rules and regulations of traffic on internal and external roads, to take care and pay attention while driving, and to protect themselves from being exposed to traffic accidents which could result in serious injuries or death.

“Incidents such as these have adverse effects on the community,” he said. – TradeArabia News Service
