Dubai launches drive to ban smoking in public places

Dubai Municipality has launched a campaign to prohibit and control the use of tobacco in public place for the public interest, said a report.

The municipality has called on all members of the community and concerned par tines to co-operate with the implementation of the UAE Cabinet Resolution No 24 of 20131 and Regulations under Federal Law No 15 of 2009 on Tobacco Control, said the Emirates News Agency (WAM) report.

The campaign aims at building a healthy and safe community and a clean environment, free of tobacco toxins, it said.

The civic body is implementing the federal law as part of its commitment to the Federal Government and social responsibility in preserving public health in line with the vision of the municipality, Hussain Nasser Lootah, director, was quoted as saying.

The move comes as a result of violations being reported from different parts of the emirate of breaches in the rules of smoking in public places, added the report.
