70 drug smuggling attempts foiled at Bahrain airport

Seventy attempts to smuggle drugs through Bahrain International Airport were foiled last year.
Police also confiscated four drug consignments at the premises of a major cargo company, Bahrain International Airport Customs director Nasser Abdulhameed told the Interior Ministry’s Al Amn magazine, reported the Gulf Daily News (GDN), our sister publication.
He said large quantities of confiscated marijuana had been handed over to Greece, Spain and the UK after it emerged they were targets of smuggling operations.
A 10kg marijuana shipment was also intercepted on its way to Kuwait from the US.
Airport authorities seized 848,663 prohibited imports last year, while 4.2 million passengers either entered or exited Bahrain through the airport aboard 75,181 flights.
Abdulhameed revealed that Bahraini authorities were able to detect contraband that had already passed rigorous screening at American and European airports with use of state-of-the-art technology. - TradeArabia News Service
