STRONG MESSAGE TO KHAMENEI

Iranian leader demands end to 'militarisation politics'

Tehran, June 29, 2014

Iranian reformist leader Mostafa Taj Zada has called on Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, to put an "end to Iran's militarisation politics".

In his latest letter addressed to the supreme leader, he criticised what he described as "mistakes in Khamenei's policies," reported the Gulf Daily News, our sister publication.

"There is no relation whatsoever between your slogans and what is being implemented on the ground, which failed to create positive impressions among the public, despite using a popular language liked by people."

He criticised Khamenei's negative comments against the Press, particularly after the supreme leader had "placed a large part of media and the Press in the bloc of enemies".

"Following such comments, Tehran's attorney-general, Mortazavi, launched an attack against the Press, closing down 100 newspapers and magazines," he said in the letter.

"Your other accusations against government critics of attempting to topple the regime led to a massive campaign of arrests against political activists, while such accusations proved to be false," he said.

Reformist Taj Zada has been in prison since he was arrested in 2009 following demonstrations protesting the alleged rigging of presidential election. He was sentenced to five years in jail on charges of propaganda against the regime and endangering national security.

He was Iran's Interior Ministry assistant for political and security affairs during former president Mohammed Khatami's rule, Islamic Iran Participation Front's central committee member and also a leading member of Islamic Revolution Militants Organisation.-TradeArabia News Service
