Bahrain, Tajikistan boost trade ties

Bahrain and Tajikistan has laid the foundations for co-operation in all fields - especially trade and investments - stressing the importance of supporting joint ventures.
His Majesty King Hamad held key talks with Tajik President Emomalii Rahmon and discussed ways of bolstering co-operation, said a report in the Gulf Daily News (GDN), our sister publication.
His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa attended the session at Sakhir Palace.
They reviewed bilateral relations and pledged to expand political, economic and trade co-operation and boost investments.
Regional and international developments were also the focus of the talks which were attended by delegations of the two countries.
The King affirmed Bahrain's keen interest in enhancing joint co-operation, stressing the importance of capitalising on both countries' assets and capabilities.
He expressed hope that the Tajik leader's visit would usher in a new era of co-operation and build bridges of intercultural and tourism exchanges.
"Bahrain is keen on building strong relations and strategic alliances, based on common visions and ambitions, with friendly countries to boost international security and economic stability," said His Majesty.
President Rahmon said he was delighted to visit Bahrain and meet the King, hailing the royal welcome and genuine hospitality.
The King bestowed The First Order of Al Khalifia (Wissam Al Khalifia) on the Tajik leader in recognition of his role in promoting co-operation.
President Rahmon thanked the King for the honour and hailed the economic and political strides made by Bahrain under his leadership.
The Tajik leader then conferred the First Order of Prince Ismail ibn Ahmad Samani medal on the King in recognition of his efforts to bolster bilateral relations.
The two leaders later attended a ceremony during which eight agreements and memoranda of understanding were signed to promote co-operation in trade, civil aviation, culture, arts, tourism and investments.
His Majesty hosted a lunch banquet in honour of the Tajik President and his delegation.
Meanwhile, eight agreements and memoranda of understanding (MoU) were signed. They included:
*An MoU on bilateral consultation between the two countries' foreign ministries signed by Foreign Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Khalifa and his Tajik counterpart Seraj-Alddin Aslof.
* The two ministers also signed an agreement on exchanging aviation services between the two countries.
* An MoU on enhancing co-operation in cultural and art fields was also signed between the Foreign Minister and Tajik Minister of Culture Shams-Alddin Arombikov.
* Another MoU on tourism was signed between the Foreign Minister and chairman of Tajik Youth, Sports and Tourism Committee and First Vice-President of the Tajik Olympic Committee Malik-Shah Namtov.
* Finance Minister Shaikh Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Khalifa and his Tajik counterpart Abdul-Salam Qerbanov signed an agreement on the avoidance of double taxation.
* The Finance Minister also signed an agreement on encouraging and protecting investment with Tajik Investment Committee chairman Qader Qassim.
* He also signed an MoU with the Tajik Economic Development and Commerce Minister Sharif Rahimzadah on economic, commercial and technical co-operation.
* Health Minister Sadiq Al Shehabi signed an MoU on co-operation in the health fields with the Tajik Health Minister Nasrallah Salimzadah. The signing of agreements and MoUs confirm Bahrain's keenness to reinforce historical bilateral relations in all fields. - TradeArabia News Service
