Teenager jailed for defaming Bahrain King

A Bahraini teenager was jailed for two years and six months for defaming his Majesty King Hamad on twitter.
The defendant ran multiple twitter pages, including one under the name of "Awal Pearl" which posted falsified news about incidents in Bahrain, according to court documents.
The twitter pages were also used to post insulting articles regarding His Majesty, read case files, reported the Gulf Daily News (GDN), our sister publication.
Police then tracked down the defendant's location, before arresting him at his house in Manama.
He confessed to posting pictures and articles about illegal gatherings, but denied insulting the King.
The defendant was convicted of defaming His Majesty and misusing social media networks by the Lower Criminal Court yesterday.
He was jailed for six months for misusing telecommunication technologies and two years for defaming His Majesty.
Authorities confiscated the computer used in the offence. - TradeArabia News Service
