Bahrain youth raise funds for Africa wells

Manama, March 27, 2014

A Bahraini youth-led relief organisation has raised more than BD13,000 ($34,310) in just 48 hours after collecting donations from Bahrain City Centre shoppers.

Ayadi Relief members and volunteers marked World Water Day by distributing flyers and balloons from a cart in the shopping mall, which also served as a collection point for donations to help their campaign build wells in the Horn of Africa, said a report in the Gulf Daily News (GDN), our sister publication.

Through fundraising, water bottle sales and donations from Ayadi Relief members, the group was able to collect enough cash to build nine BD1,000 wells and one BD4,660 well system.

"The building of wells in impoverished African communities will help contribute towards resolving water-related issues that are endemic in poor rural villages," said project co-ordinator Manal Sulaibeekh.

"The campaign will be running for two more weeks, and donations can be made by contacting Ayadi Relief." - TradeArabia News Service
