Bahrain backs Palestinian cause
Kuwait City, March 25, 2014
Foreign Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed Al Khalifa last night took part in a meeting of the foreign ministers of the Arab League member states with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas at Bayan Palace.
The Palestinian President provided a detailed account of the latest developments in the Palestinian peace process and the direct negotiations between the Palestinian and Israeli sides, said a report in the Gulf Daily News (GDN), our sister publication.
There were also discussions to prepare the draft decisions related to Palestine that will be issued by the Arab League council at its 25th ordinary session to be held in Kuwait today and tomorrow.
Shaikh Khalid stressed Bahrain's firm stance toward the Palestinian issue, adding that a comprehensive and lasting solution will not be achieved without the Israeli withdrawal from the 1967 occupied Arab lands, with mutually agreed swaps.
He also called for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with Al Quds as its capital.
He said these are the principles stipulated in the Arab Peace Initiative and reflected in the relevant legitimate international resolutions.
Meanwhile, Shaikh Khalid met Kuwaiti First Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister Shaikh Sabah Khalid Al Hamad Al Sabah on the sidelines of the session.
They discussed historic bilateral relations and highlighted Kuwait's important role in joint Arab action. Talks included consultations and the exchange of views on issues on the summit agenda. - TradeArabia News Service
