Credit card thief jailed in Bahrain
Manama, March 4, 2014
A Saudi Arabian man who targeted Asians to steal credit cards has been jailed for five years.
The 41-year-old was caught after approaching an Indian victim pretending to help him withdraw cash from an ATM machine at a mall in Nuwaidrat in May last year, said a report in the Gulf Daily News (GDN), our sister publication.
However, he swapped the 49-year-old victim's credit card and handed him another card that did not work.
The defendant then told the victim he did not have any money in his account, according to court documents.
The victim later found out the Saudi had tricked him and withdrawn BD350 ($918.4) from his account.
However, he was able to identify the defendant from a police line-up.
The man was convicted of fraud and theft by the High Criminal Court and allegedly had 19 other similar cases against him.
He will be deported after completing his sentence. - TradeArabia News Service
