Bahrain's parliament has approved a proposal to honour creative Bahrainis in all fields and provide them with financial and technical assistance to develop.

The parliament also approved nine other proposals and referred them to the Cabinet, said a report in the Gulf Daily News (GDN), our sister publication.

It included combating illegally issued commercial registrations (CRs), creating a clear strategy to reduce the BD5 billion ($13.2) national budget deficit, solving the ongoing traffic problems in Hoora and Gudaibiya, and turning historic parts of several schools into museums, including Al Hedaya Al Khalifaya Secondary School, Al Alawiya Al Mubarakya School and the Jaffari Institute.

The proposals also included monitoring shops to ensure that cigarettes are not sold to children under 18, turning Halab Island in Muharraq into a public theme park and joining it with the Prince Khalifa bin Salman Park in Hidd, establishing a new authority or directorate to develop old residential neighbourhoods and markets, drawing up a national strategy for early intervention to help disabled children and the elderly, and presenting financial awards to board members in associations, federations and clubs who serve more than four years. - TradeArabia News Service
