Thirteen suspected cases of corruption have been referred to the Public Prosecution since last January.

The anti-corruption and economic and electronic security directorate lodged eight cases in connection with violations cited in the National Audit Office report, said a report in the Gulf Daily News (GDN), our sister publication.

The Interior Minister stressed his resolve to combat corruption and disseminate probity.

"Bahrain has gone a long way in the fight against corruption," he said, commending the reform project initiated by His Majesty King Hamad to enforce the rule of law, achieve justice and protect public money.

In a statement yesterday, he announced that all legal procedures had been taken before referring the cases, including evidence corroborating the accusations.

He urged law abidance, stressing the need to fight sleaze and graft and foster transparency, integrity and accountability to protect public money.

The directorate is part of a work team in charge of probing the irregularities cited in the Bahrain Independent Commission of Inquiry report. - TradeArabia News Service
