Bahrain has set up a national committee to help flood-hit families.

The lifeline follows Royal Charity Organisation (RCO) chairman Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa's visit to rain-stricken areas in Muharraq and the Southern Governorate yesterday, said a report in the Gulf Daily News (GDN), our sister publication.

The initiative is in line with His Majesty King Hamad's directives in the aftermath of the three-day downpour that wreaked havoc on public facilities, infrastructure, roads and houses.

Shaikh Nasser was received by Southern and Muharraq governors Shaikh Abdulla bin Rashid Al Khalifa and Salman bin Hindi.

RCO secretary-general Dr Mustafa Al Sayed and Municipalities and Urban Planning Affairs Ministry Under-Secretary Dr Nabeel Mohammed Abulfateh were present.

Chaired by Dr Al Sayed, the committee will mobilise assistance and contribute to helping citizens affected by the torrential rain.

Shaikh Nasser urged authorities to join efforts and alleviate suffering caused by the rain, stressing Bahrain's keenness to extend a helping hand to citizens in times of adversity.

Meanwhile, Municipalities and Urban Planning Affairs Minister Dr Juma Al Ka'abi yesterday toured flood-hit areas in Budaiya and reviewed clean-up efforts. - TradeArabia News Service
