2,500 vehicles seized for dangerous speeding

Abu Dhabi, September 29, 2013

The Traffic and Patrols Directorate at the Abu Dhabi Police have seized more than 2,500 vehicles for driving at dangerous speeds on the internal and external roads of the emirate in the first eight months of this year.

Dangerous speeds are defined as speeds above 200 km/hr, said Brigadier Hussein Ahmed Al Harithi, director.

Al Harithi stressed that there would be no laxity in enforcing the traffic law pertaining to driving at dangerous speeds, participating in races, doing risky stunts such as drifting with vehicles or motorcycles on public roads.

He warned motorists, especially the younger ones, not to commit any traffic law violations, exceed the speed limit, race or perform stunts. He also highlighted that road monitoring has increased through the civil patrols of the Traffic Investigation Section on various roads, in addition to air patrols, which are operated in cooperation with the Air Wing Section at the Abu Dhabi Police.

The air patrols can take footage of violators and the road violations they commit, he said.

Al Harithi said that exceeding the allowed speed constitutes a grave danger for road users and further noted that it is one of the main causes of traffic accidents. - TradeArabia News Service
