Al Ain revokes 55 driving licences in Aug

Abu Dhabi, September 11, 2013

A total of 55 driving licenses of drivers who violated traffic regulations were revoked in Al Ain in August, according to the Al Ain Traffic and Patrols Section at the Abu Dhabi Police Traffic and Patrols Directorate.

Major Salah Abdullah Al Hemairi, acting head of Al Ain Traffic Section said that holders of the revoked driving licenses had exceeded the cumulative number of 24 traffic black point demerit, adding that two other licences were cancelled.

“The cumulative allowed 24 traffic points limit is reached as a result of committing serious violations such as: truck drivers recklessly overtaking other vehicles (resulting in 24 points), driving dangerously or racing on the road (resulting in 12 points), and other traffic related offences,” he explained.

“Revoking driving licenses aims at preventing reckless offenders from posing a risk to themselves and other road users for a short period of time. For a first offence, a license is withdrawn for a period of three months, six months in the second instance, then for a year and then it may be revoked permanently if the driver commits a fourth offence.

“If he continues to drive with a cancelled license, he shall be punished and transferred to the concerned authority for investigation, then to the General Prosecution to render the appropriate sentence,” he added. – TradeArabia News Service
