Bahrain puts Hizbollah on terror list
Manama, May 25, 2013
Bahrain has officially decided to put Hizbollah on the list of terror organisations. His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa sent a letter in this regard to parliament chairman Dr Khalifa Al Dhahrani.
He affirmed the government's backing for the parliament's call to put Hizbollah on the terror list.
"The government throws its weight behind all international efforts aimed at isolating Hizbollah and other terror organisations," he said.
The Premier directed the Interior Ministry to co-ordinate with the Foreign Ministry and the Legislation and Legal Opinion Commission to enforce the proposal in co-operation with legislative authority.
Bahrain follows in the steps of other countries which have decided to take a similar stance against the Lebanese militia.
The move also came as France, Britain and Germany backed calls to announce the armed wing of Hizbollah a terror organisation.
Investigations have revealed compelling evidence on Hizbollah's involvement in masterminding most of the terror acts in Bahrain.
The Lebanese militia is also involved in training and funding terrorists who perpetrate criminal acts, in a flagrant violation of Bahrain's sovereignty and independence.
Legislations will now be drawn up for the proposal to take effect. Once approved, all organisations and military wings funding and training Bahrainis in armed operations will be put on the list of terror organisations.-TradeArabia News Service
