Feb 14 – a fresh start for Bahrain

Manama, February 14, 2013

Bahrain’s Premier has urged citizens to celebrate today's anniversary of the National Action Charter as a day of unity and tolerance - as well as a fresh start for nation-building.

"The march of national work will continue unabated, thanks to people's unity," he said, asserting that no obstacle would hamper Bahrain's developmental march, our sister newspaper, the Gulf Daily News reported.

His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, in a statement marking the 12th anniversary of the charter, hailed the landmark covenant, endorsed by a sweeping majority.

"It is the embodiment of national consensus and unity among citizens," he said, describing the charter as a source of inspiration to steer society away from rifts and disunity. "However, this will not be achieved unless we agree unanimously to put Bahrain and people's interests above all other considerations," he said, urging all parties to join ranks to combat all that jeopardises national security and unity.

The ratification of the charter, he said, laid the foundations for a national political, economic and social roadmap.

The Premier described the deplorable events as a catalyst strengthening commitment to the principles and values enshrined in the charter. He also paid tribute to His Majesty King Hamad for his call to resume the National Dialogue and address pending political issues. – TradeArabia News Service
