Bahrain King provides homes to Syrian refugees
Manama, January 14, 2013
Bahrain will provide 500 prefab cabins for Syrian refugees living in the Zaatari Camp in Jordan under the directives issued by His Majesty King Hamad.
He assigned the Royal Charity Organisation (RCO), led by its Board of Trustees' Chairman Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, to carry out the directives, said a report in our sister publication the Gulf Daily News.
The cabins will be built for the refugees at the camp near Amman, which has been reeling under heavy rain and snowstorms.
Shaikh Nasser paid tribute to the King, also the RCO honorary president, for his philanthropic initiatives. He also hailed HRH the Premier and HRH the Crown Prince for their support.
Shaikh Nasser pledged to provide the cabins as soon as possible in compliance with the royal directives.
Ayman Riyadh, secretary-general of Jordan's Royal Hashemite Charity Organisation, which is responsible for organising Bahraini projects, said a Bahrain-built school at the camp has proved to be a boon for the refugees in the harsh climatic conditions.
Refugees have temporarily been relocated at the $2 million 4,600 sq m facility, which was officially opened by Shaikh Nasser in November last year, after their tents were damaged in the snowstorms.
RCO Secretary-General Dr Mustafa Al Sayed said Bahrain plans to open a psychological guidance centre for children at the camp.
Separately, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Ghanim bin Fadhl Al Buainain headed Bahrain's delegation at an Arab League meeting in the Egyptian capital to review aid to Syrian refugees in Jordan, Lebanon and Iraq. The ministerial meeting also discussed the impact of the Syrian crisis on neighbouring countries. – TradeArabia News Service
