Firefighters to vie for UAE title

Abu Dhabi, March 14, 2012

The UAE’s best fire fighters will assemble next week in Abu Dhabi to compete in the 2012 UAE Fire Fighting Championships taking place under the banner of an upcoming safety and resilience conference.

The 2012 International Security and National Resilience Exhibition and Conference (ISNR Abu Dhabi 2012) is running from March 19 to 21 at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre.

The competition is being supported by the UAE General Directorate of Civil Defence and will tests the fire fighting and rescue skills commonly faced by responders during emergencies over three days in a 15,000 sq ft arena.

Contestants will be in full turnout gear – including helmet, fire-retardant equipment, boots, gloves, and breathing apparatus – as they compete in three sequences (Individual, Double and Team Relays) and six tasks (Stair Climb, Hose Hoist, Forced Entry, Run over set course, Hose Advance, and Victim Rescue).

The tournament is being organised by UAE-based fire and rescue management firm 911 Occupational Safety and Fire Fighting Training.

“In the fire fighting profession, a few seconds can spell the difference between life and death. Firefighters and rescue responders are in a constant battle with time and the elements, so they need to have exceptional levels of physical and emotional fitness,” said Mohammed Al Ahmadi, managing director, 911 Occupational Safety and Fire Fighting Training.

“The 2012 UAE Fire Fighting Championships will showcase the world-class skills of the UAE’s firefighting community and encourage higher standards of emergency response capabilities across the region.”

“The UAE Fire Fighting Championships is one of the highlights of ISNR Abu Dhabi 2012 as it demonstrates firefighting at its best within an exciting and authentic environment. We wish participants the best of luck and hope that the winners will perform well during the finals,” added Mohamad Bader-Eddin, show director, Reed Exhibitions Middle East.

ISNR Abu Dhabi 2012, the fifth edition of the Middle East’s definitive homeland security event, will gather over 150 exhibitors from more than 24 countries to present the latest solutions in border and transport security; intelligence and threat assessment; critical infrastructure protection; emergency preparedness & response; counter terrorism; and resilience. – TradeArabia News Service
