Investbank joins forest protection project

Amman, March 10, 2012

Investbank has signed a MoU with Jordan-based Al-Shajarah Society to rehabilitate, preserve and develop the natural recourse of Beireen Forest in collaboration with the surrounding community and in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture.

Beireen forest is one of the few naturally grown forests of the national tree of Jordan (Malol, deciduous Oak),  which exist under severe pressure.

The move comes as part of the bank's CSR commitment to the environment and poverty alleviation in Jordan, said a statement from Investbank.

The first phase of Investbank’s Forest protection project sits on around 100 dunums with the possibility of covering more areas in Beireen in the second phase of this environmental project.

Investbank CEO Muntaser Dawwas, said, 'We are really proud to be part of this eco protection project as part of our CSR. We are seeking, with the help of Al-Shajarah Society, to conserve a forest that is managed, protected and developed with cooperation with the local communities, which will eventually accommodate visitors; allowing them to enjoy outdoor extracurricular activities.'

'This will assist in spreading awareness and environment education throughout the neighbouring areas,' Dawwas stated.

'We, at Investbank, consider protecting the environment as part of our responsibility in our daily life and future, we look forward to encouraging people, especially the young generation on the importance of protecting the environment in order to enjoy it,' he added.

Al Shajarah director general, Mohammad Qawabah, said: “Both Investbank and we share the same message and support for our natural resources. This project will be a model for others to follow and our society will be able to enjoy it.'-TradeArabia News Service
