Bahrain journalists unravel unrest truth at UN
Geneva, March 10, 2012
A high-level Bahraini team, led by veteran journalist and Akhbar Al Khaleej editor-in-chief Anwar Abdulrahman revealed the real truth behind last year's unrest in Bahrain at a key meeting in Switzerland.
The delegation, which included writer and Shura Council member Sameera Rajab and leading human rights lawyer Nabeel Saad, reiterated the kingdom's strong commitment to human rights and democracy.
They met officials of the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights - Middle East and briefed them on latest situation in Bahrain, the history of the unrest, the kingdom's reforms and its landmark achievements.
They also discussed a request by the Bahraini team to open communication between the UN commission and concerned parties in the kingdom, particularly businessmen, liberals, women and the 'silent' majority.
Biased reports based on one-sided versions of events reported to international community have tarnished Bahrain's reputation, the team pointed out.
The Bahraini delegation later answered questions at a Press conference, which also focused on democratic reforms, the future of Bahrain and the freedom of women.-TradeArabia News Service
