Bahrain human rights activists have announced that they will attend all marches and gatherings in the country until the month-end as independent observers.

The activists have urged the organisers of the rallies to ensure that the gatherings are not hijacked by thugs.

Authorities are then forced to take legal measures and control violence when a crowd becomes a mob, said Bahrain Human Rights Watch Society and Gulf European Centre for Human Rights leader Faisal Fulad.

"Fifty activists, uniting under the name of 'The Independent Observers of the Marches and Rallies in Bahrain', will wear distinctive orange vests with 'Observer' printed on them in English and Arabic," Fulad said.

They will carry identity cards issued by the society and video cameras to record the event, he pointed out.

Responsible leadership is necessary at all gatherings to ensure restraint so that the event doesn't turn violent, said Fulad.

"Such leadership can also enforce internal discipline to project the message without the event being hijacked by hooligans who are destroying everyone's opportunity to achieving their desired goals," he added.

The Gulf Daily News, our sister publ;ication, had reported on Friday that a series of planned protests and gatherings will take place across the country to mark the events of Bahrain's unrest.

A protest in support of the Syrian people was held in front of the Grand Mosque in Juffair yesterday.

Al Wefaq National Islamic Society also held a rally from Jidhafs Roundabout to the Country Mall on Budaiya Road.

Supporters of Al Fateh Awakening Movement are planning a series of gatherings in the lead up to February 14, starting with a rally near the Grand Mosque at 3.30pm today. -TradeArabia News Service
