Bahrain drops charges against 43

Manama, December 25, 2011

Bahrain yesterday (December 24) dropped against 43 protesters as part of an ongoing assessment of national safety procedures and a review of certain charges, said a senior official.

A total of 343 others will also soon benefit, added Public Prosecutor Dr Ali bin Fadhl Al Buainain.

The measure is also in line with the findings of the Bahrain Independent Commission of Inquiry (BICI), Sr Al Buainain said.

However, other cases will remain pending as they involve crimes of violence and sabotage targeting people and properties.

He confirmed that the Public Prosecution will continue assessing cases relating to the rights of rallying and scrutinise issued verdicts.

He also revealed that the Interior Ministry had referred to the Public Prosecution cases and complaints relating to torture and maltreatment.

Testimonies of victims and plaintiffs will be heard from next week. – TradeArabia news Service
