Bahrain youth to attend poll classes
Manama, September 17, 2011
An Election Culture Week for the Youth will start today where young Bahrainis are being given lessons about elections and ways to improve their political and electoral knowledge.
It is being organised by the Bahrain Institute for Political Development and will be held until Wednesday.
It will consist of several themes. The first is 'Glimpses of the Political and Constitutional System in the Kingdom of Bahrain' which will introduce the young to the system and relations between the executive, legislative and judicial authorities.
The second is 'Concepts of Electoral Systems', which will inform participants about the main electoral systems in the world, ways of holding elections and methods adopted to implement these systems.
The third relates to political rights law and will set out individual political rights and ways to exercise them.
The final theme concentrates on election-related crimes, such as the offences committed before and after the election process.
These include rules used to organise elections, punishment for not adhering to the political rights law, Shura Council law as well as parliament and municipality laws.
The week will conclude with a forum focusing on the importance of the youth's participation in elections, any challenges in the election process and how to overcome them.-TradeArabia News Service
