Thomas Klein designs leisure outlet in Kuwait
Dubai, September 8, 2011
Thomas Klein International, the Dubai-based F&B consulting firm, and its Chicago architectural office, PS Studio, have unveiled the final design for a new nightlife destination in Kuwait.
Part of the The Epicure Group’s expanding portfolio, Pintxos will be located in the Quibla area of Kuwait City and will target the city’s young and trendy socialites.
“The design is based around an all-black theme which creates a mysterious, cosy and enticing ambience,” said Daniel During, principal and managing director of Thomas Klein International.
The overall vibe of the restaurant is designed to encourage socialising with informal seating and low lighting.
An installation of over 2,000 felt cones, each with a fibre-optic light, will glow just above head level, creating a twilight effect of intimacy and mystery, a statement said.
The fibre optics will be controlled from a central computer allowing precision settings that create a menu of illumination and art to maintain an interesting and dynamic atmosphere, it added.
“Interestingly the tables are actually individual pieces of hand-cut basalt, with free form felt ottomans for gathering around and sharing the myriad little dishes on offer on the extensive menu,” noted During.
“Each table also weighs in excess of one tonne and are totally one of a kind,” he added.
The bar is a solid piece of basalt, perforated with hundreds of small holes allowing light to shine through, creating a richly-textured focal point.
The bar and theatre kitchen will serve a selection of tapas-style finger food - the inspiration behind the restaurant’s Basque name. The launch of Pintxos is planned for end of 2011. – TradeArabia News Service
