Dubai, August 25, 2011
Souk Al Bahar, a dining, leisure, and shopping destination with Arabesque architectural features at The Old Town in Downtown Dubai, is marking Ramadan with the ‘Art of Calligraphy’ exhibition.
The exhibition being presented by Glory Art gallery will run up till September 10, and feature Arabic calligraphy works of globally recognised and emerging artists.
The event organisers, Emaar Malls Group, Souk Al Bahar and Glory Art Gallery, said they have undertaken extensive research to present the facts of Arabic calligraphy in a simple manner that appeals to all visitors.
From depicting the verses from the Holy Quran to serving as stamps of authority and detailing historic tales, calligraphy in the Arab world has a vivid heritage.
Nasser Rafi, CEO of Emaar Malls Group, said the exhibition at Souk Al Bahar opens doors to the evolution and history of calligraphy, and is a perfect fit to Ramadan.
"The exhibition is expected to encourage talented youngsters to pursue the fine art of calligraphy, and give visitors to Downtown Dubai a true experience of our cultural and artistic heritage," he noted.
The exhibition is displayed at various points on level two of Souk Al Bahar.
Souk Al Bahar (meaning ‘Market of the Sailor’) derives its name from its traditional Souk-style architecture featuring natural stone corridors, high archways and subdued lighting and its unique ‘waterfront’ location on Burj Lake.
Souk Al Bahar offers a novel shopping and dining out experience for visitors to Downtown Dubai, described as ‘The Centre of Now.’ It features several stores including over 22 food and beverage outlets, several of them framing the mall’s waterfront promenade.
Souk Al Bahar is currently offering an eclectic line-up of cuisines with special Ramadan packages and offers for Iftar and Suhour.-TradeArabia News Service
