Bahrain plans novel municipal services
Manama, July 2, 2011
Residents in one of Bahrain's biggest districts could soon benefit from municipal services at their doorsteps, said government officials.
The BD20,000 ($53,044) project would involve a mobile unit equipped with a staff office travelling to villages to carry out duties such as issuing building and street trader permits.
Central Municipality director-general Dr Mohammed Hassan raised the idea during a Central Municipal Council meeting.
He said the proposal would ease the flow of visitors at municipality branches in the governorate.
"This way more residents can avail of services at the unit instead of travelling to branches," he said.
"It will ease the huge number of visitors coming to the branches and allow those there to have their jobs done faster."
Dr Hassan said the proposal could also serve as an awareness campaign for residents on the types of services provided by the municipality.
"They can also be made familiar with the services and procedures for each one as well as documents needed," he said.
Council chairman Abdulrazzaq Al Hattab welcomed the proposal, but suggested further study should be conducted before councillors voted on the idea.
"We need to further study the proposal to ensure it will benefit everyone. We also need to outline recommendations and regulations so that this project serves its purpose," he added
