Bahrain courts try over 105,000 cases

Manama, June 28, 2011

Bahrain's courts have heard a total of 105,030 cases during the official judicial term from last September to May, compared to with 99,936 cases heard in the previous judicial term, according to new statistics.

It follows the employment of 17 judges and the introduction of more courts.

The development is also thanks to continued evaluation and review by the new Judicial Inspection Directorate founded last September.

"The new system has allowed for better performance in all 70 courts," the directorate's head Isa Al Ka'abi told a Press conference held at the Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowment (Awqaf) Ministry in the Diplomatic Area.

"It meant that more cases passed through and were looked at by judges. The directorate is involved in the performances of all courts as well as complaints."

Al Ka'abi said that since the directorate started work, it had received an average of 10 complaints on a daily basis.

"These vary from ones directly addressing the judge to those on the procedures of a certain court," he said. "The directorate's main role is to review and evaluate each court's performance and work on new plans to develop its work."

Statistics also revealed that 42,178 verdicts were issued in all courts this judicial term, compared with 43,405 the previous term.

Meanwhile, a total of 22 Bahrainis will be recruited to work with the Public Prosecution or as judges as part of next judicial term plans, said Al Ka'abi.

"The Supreme Judicial Council decides how many will serve the prosecution and how many will become judges," he said.

Seven consultants will also be appointed for their expertise at the Cassation, High Civil Appeals and High Civil courts, said Al Ka'abi. – TradeArabia News Service
